Do we need a reservation to create a project?
No. Our studio is open during all our store hours for anyone who wants to come in and
do art. If you want to you may call ahead (650-323-1515) to see if we are busy or have
a private party but otherwise just come on by!
Do we need an appointment to have a clay handprint made at your studio?
Yes, appointments are recommended. Walk-ins are welcome if Beth, Jackie or
Mayraare on duty and upon availability.
When are you open?
We are open 7 days a week. Monday through Thursday from 10am-7pm, Friday and
Saturday 10am-8pm and Sunday from 11-6pm. All other times are available by
reservations. We always have a last seating and pick up one hour before closing. If
no one is here painting we will close early. On rare occasions, we may close early for
a private party or event. Check our website and our studio voicemail for any changes
to our hours.
What ages are your art projects designed for?
Our projects are designed for the whole family from kids to parents to grandparents to
great-granparents - everyone is welcome. Little kid's handprints and toddler footprints
are great gifts!
Do you have a sitting fee or a studio fee?
No. Our prices are all inclusive of studio time, supplies, glazing and firing. The price
of the item is your total price (plus tax of course!). You are welcome to create for as
long as you want. If you are unable to finish your project in one visit you can come
back another day to finish for only a $5 return visit fee.
What is the Return Visit Fee?
If you cant finish your project in one day, we will be happy to pack your piece and you
can come back another day to finish for only $5! The return visit fee is waived with a
new purchase of $10 or more.
Do your products contain lead?
Our paints and clear glazes are lead-free, non-toxic, food-safe and environmentally
sound. Each bottle contains a non-toxic label that shows you it is safe for you and your
children. All of our glazes used by staff to finish your pieces are also non-toxic and
contain no added lead.
Are pieces safe to eat off of?
Yes! All of our pieces that are left and fired are foodsafe (ceramics or glass).
Are pieces safe for the dishwasher or microwave?
We recommend you treat your pottery creation like you would fine china. The
microwave heats pieces much more quickly than a kiln and can cause them to crack
or even explode. The dishwasher will age your piece very quickly and can cause
chipping and cracking. It is not oven safe.
Do the paints wash out of clothes?
A stain remover like shout or spray and wash should remove paint from your clothes.
How long does it take to get my ceramic or glass piece back?
It takes about a week for us to fire your piece and an extra three days to slump your
glass. During the Christmas holidays, it takes 10 days to fire your piece and 15
days to slump you glass.
Are you really "Firing" my piece?
Yes, our kiln heats up to 1860 degrees so we really are "firing" it. :)
Can I bring in piece I bought elsewhere to paint/fire?
Sorry not at this time. Clay is a natural material that can contain hazardous materials.
All products at our studio are non-toxic and tested to be compatible with our paints and
glazes. Because of risks to your pieces, our kilns, other customer's pieces and the
health of our staff, we only fire pieces purchased at Create It Ceramics.
Can I help my child paint a piece?
Art helps children to develop eye-hand coordination, fine motor skills and self
confidence! While we allow parents to assist, we like to encourage children to create
their own works of art and encourage everyone who visits us to create their own
masterpiece!
I cant find information on a particular subject.
Please feel free to email us at info@createitceramics.com or call us during our
business hours at 650-323-1515. Any of our staff will be happy to help you out!
